World Book Discover
When I started looking at this site, I was excited to share it with our ELL and special education teachers. I think they would find it easy to use for her students. I like the text reading feature (I know this was on the other World Book Sites but did not mention it unti now). I think those with a reading disability would appreciate the text-reading feature. I think the reference tools would be helpful to students as well as the life skills section. The topics have been narrowed down and the pictures make it easy to find information. World Book Discover is new to me and I am eager to get the word out about this site.
World Book Advanced
I searched for the country Germany and was surprised by the wealth of information given. I think that someone doing research on a country would be pleased to find all the links on the left hand side. The list of primary sources would be helpful as these types of sources shows a true picture of places and events. Once I actually clicked on Germany, I found a plethera of information. The left hand side of the page acts as a table of contents showing what will be found in the article on Germany. This site provides a great deal of information for students doing research on a given topic.
World Book Student
World Book Student is designed for grades 5-9. Videos and pictures are available as with World Book Kids, but this site goes in to great detail and gives a richer depth of information. Students doing research on elephants would have no trouble finding information at this site.
World Book - Kids Page
I liked the 2-page handout that can be used with World Book Kids Page. I think this would be a nice thing to hand out to teachers as a way to get them interested in World Book online. At first look, the page is bright and colorful and appealing to the eyes. I did my animal search on elephants. I found a picture and a map of the elephant as well as several videos. World Book Kids is designed with the elementary student in mind and certainly meets their needs.
